Many of us enter the New Year with hopes and dreams. Expectancy is in our hearts as we envision a future that is prosperous and well. We long for success and positive outcomes. Planning is good. Dreaming is good. But surrender is better. So as we set goals and intentions for the year, let the words of Jesus anchor our desires, “not my will but yours.”

Surrender In The Garden
The time had arrived. Jesus had spent three years in public ministry teaching, healing, gathering, and spreading the good news. Now, as He made His way to Jerusalem, it was time for Him to suffer. Filled with anguish for what He would soon endure, He turned to the Father and prayed. Jesus, fully God yet fully man, suffered the unimaginable. It was beyond gruesome, reprehensible, and way more than what my mind could perceive as painful. And He did so, willingly.
Christ gave the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we could live. Therefore, our lives are not our own. Honestly, they never were. We were made in God’s image for His glory and to fulfill His purposes. When we understand and accept the weight of the cross and our identity in the Lord, we live differently. We dream differently and envision differently. We strive differently because we live for God. Our submission and surrender are rooted in our obedience to the Father. We lay down every worldly desire for the desires of the Kingdom. This year, as you set goals, posture your heart like Christ’s – “not my will, but yours.” Allow God to take His rightful place in your life. Allow Him to lead you.
With Love,
Tamara
Scripture To Meditate On
‘“Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me — nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” ‘
‘Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ‘
‘Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will find it. ‘
‘Commit your way to the Lord ; trust in him, and he will act, ‘
‘Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. ‘
