The New Year Goal Every Christian Should Have

Across the globe, fireworks filled the air as cheerful voices counted down at midnight. 2026 was ushered in with joy, confetti, and happy smiles, hopeful for what this year will bring. In the first few days of January, visions are being cast, and objections are journaled as we embark on a new adventure. However, there is one New Year’s goal every Christian should have: to look more like Christ.

Become Like Christ

We live in a world of hyperachievement and success. As an ambitious person, I get it. Yet, as a follower of Christ, I understand that my life is not my own. When we choose to fully surrender our lives to the Lord, we sacrifice our will for His.

There are indeed many things I desire, and goalsI have set for myself. However, as I conversed with my brothers-in-law on the last day of our family vacation and discussed New Year’s resolutions, my resolution was simple: to grow closer to the Lord, to bear fruit of the Spirit, and continue to surrender to Him. I am hopeful for many outcomes, but I want them to flow from His will and not my own.

Year after year, the goal every Christian should have is to become more like Christ. We should intend to submit to the Father, carry out His will, and share His Gospel. So, this year, I pray that more hearers, doers, and teachers of the Word will rise up. I pray that we will declare truth with boldness, love, and grace. I pray that we live as disciples and make disciples.

With Love,

Tamara
