A King Is Born

He was wrapped tightly in cloth and laid in a manger (Luke 2:12). To mere human eyes, Jesus’ birth was anything but miraculous. However, His seemingly uneventful arrival changed humanity forever. A long-awaited prophecy begins to unfold before the eyes of those present as a king is born.

A Lowly Birth

Jesus wasn’t born in a grand palace, nor was His mother attended to by a mirage of midwives. Instead, Mary and Joseph found themselves in a stable after finding no room in the inn. Surrounded by animals, I can only imagine the unpleasant smell. In this lowly place lay the Savior of the world, our Messiah. Yet, juxtaposed with Jesus’ humble birth is the glorious appearance of an angel of the Lord and a multitude of heavenly hosts praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors!” (Luke 2) What a sight to witness! What a privilege it was for those shepherds to receive the good news from heaven.

A Humble King

Unlike the kings of the world, when Jesus grows and begins to reveal His ministry, He doesn’t boast about riches and power or seek to be served out of selfish ambition. Instead, He came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). We serve a selfless and sacrificial King. He descended so that we could ascend with Him. Therefore, He is our saving grace. Our humble King demonstrates the true nature of God and His great love for us. The veiled glory of Jesus would ultimately reveal the Father’s plan of salvation and offer us eternity.

The Reason For The Season

As we move through the busyness of the end of the year, let us remember who we serve: a King who is above all kings and whose Kingdom will last forever. Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season. He is who we celebrate and revere.

With Love,

Tamara

Scripture To Meditate On

Luke 2:6-7

‘In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.” Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors! , , ‘

Luke 2:8-14

‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” ,’
