What Is A Word Of The Year?
A word of the year is a word or phrase that helps set the tone for the coming months. It is a word that encompasses all you wish to strengthen, heal, or achieve. I love having a word or phrase because it helps me focus on my God Goals with intention and clarity.
How To Choose Your Word Or Phrase
When I’m deciding on my word, I begin by asking myself a few questions. What was God teaching me last year? What did I struggle with? Where is God leading me? These questions allow me to sit and reflect so that I am not choosing a word in vain but out of obedience to God’s call on my life.
What was God teaching me last year? – Think about the revelations God gave you last year. What did He teach you about Him, His Word, His nature, or even yourself? How did these revelations affect you, convict you, or help you grow?
What did I struggle with? – Reflect on the areas of your life that were a struggle. What habits were difficult to break or sustain and why? Are there areas of God’s Word you lack understanding or struggle to obey? How does this struggle affect your walk with God or other relationships in your life?
Where is God leading me? – What does God continue to press on your heart? What are those desires that are the fruit of intimacy with Him? Is clarity something that you lack?
Holy Spirit Lead
The key is to spend time in prayer seeking God for His guidance. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. Your word should push you closer to God so you can live according to His will and plan for your life. His path is perfect. So the secret is simple. Determine where you’ve been, who you are, and where you are going with God. When you know that, choosing your word is easy.
