The Hope We Find In Resurrection Sunday

All hope seemed lost. Could it be true? The promised Messiah was dead? Was He really the Messiah? How could He be the son of God? I’m sure all of these questions flooded the minds of those who followed and put their trust in Him. However, soon enough, they will learn just how powerful and holy Jesus is. Over two thousand years later, the hope we find in Resurrection Sunday is a constant reminder of God’s sovereignty and love for us.

Jesus Is Alive

On Saturday, they waited. Probably not with great expectation of victory, but with a growing fear of the unknown. And then, Sunday arrived. As promised, Jesus was resurrected. He walked out of that tomb and today, we enjoy the gift of knowing, of knowing that Jesus died and lived. For He lives. He lives in you and me. Our hope lies in the revelation of who He is and what He did.

Thus, our assurance is not found in the circumstances we live in or the cross we carry. Instead, we trust in the promise of Christ. It is a promise that supersedes the suffering of this day. For one day, we will go from groans to glory. So we wait, with great expectation, to see Christ.

As we read about Jesus’ last days, we empathize with those who cried out Hosanna. Likewise, we can relate to their vocal desperation as they shouted for a savior. They wanted to be rescued. However, we now understand that what Christ has given us is eternal salvation. Because He has conquered death, proving His power over it and sin. Therefore, we rejoice because we have been redeemed and set free. He is our living hope that points to our Father and a glorious eternity with Him.

Scripture To Meditate On

‘After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they became like dead men. The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.” ‘

Matthew 28:1-7

‘I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. ‘

Galatians 2:20

‘For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us. ‘

Romans 8:18

‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. You are being guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials so that the proven character of your faith — more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire — may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. ‘

1 Peter 1:3-9
