The Conversation We Should Actually Have About Rapture Tok

Apparently, Jesus was supposed to come back yesterday, but there’s still hope for today. At least, according to some “internet prophets” and TikTok influencers. It has caused such a frenzy that even the mainstream media has picked up the story. Social media has been swamped with tearful videos in addition to the plethora of parody and Christian-mocking content being pushed by the algorithm. Many are having a good laugh. However, the conversation we should actually have about “Rapture Tok” is much more serious.

The Significance of Rapture Predictions

This isn’t new. September 23rd and 24th have been added to a list of predicted dates that have sent humanity into an apocalyptic whirlwind for generations. In fact, the Bible warns us about such false prophecies that are not rooted in truth.

‘Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ‘ 1 John 4:1

‘ “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows — neither the angels of heaven nor the Son — except the Father alone. ‘ Matthew 24:36

‘This is why you are also to be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. ‘ Matthew 24:44

Further, Paul encourages Timothy to avoid “irreverent and empty speech” that leads to godlessness (2 Timothy 2:16). False teaching spreads like a cancer and hinders the faith of others.

‘They have departed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and are ruining the faith of some. ‘

2 Timothy 2:18

Sound familiar?

A Lack Of Biblical Literacy

Unfortunately, the Church is plagued by people who have a lack of Biblical literacy. The storm of social media posts proves the insufficiency of knowledge and truth concerning the Scriptures. Many are unaware of what God says about the future of His church and humanity, and the prophecies of the events that are to take place in His written Word. The debate between pre- and post-tribulation is besides the point. Many don’t even know such a debate is taking place. I know, I was once one of them! We are lacking foundational knowledge about the Bible and God Himself.

This is dangerous. We have pastors who share motivational speeches from the pulpit rather than preaching the Word. We have congreations who act more like spectators than believers who worship in Spirit and Truth (John 4:23). The result is a people following after empty myths (2 Timothy 4:4) and philosophies (Colossians 2:8) when we should be following Christ.

A Missed Opportunity

I’m convinced that many of the creators taking to social media with testimonies of selling their possessions and arranging care for their pets are just riding the wave of this hysteria. But I’m also convinced that some have taken this prophecy to heart. Some with tears and fear. Others with hope and expectation of finally seeing Jesus face to face. This isn’t a light thing. My heart has been grieved by the deception and taunting of our faith. Because the truth is, humanity is not ready for the return of Christ.

I see a missed opportunity. I see people more concerned about their earthly treasures than they are about sharing the TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL. If God did give us an exact day and time, is this how we would prepare? Giving our goods to those who aren’t saved rather than giving them the Gospel? Saying goodbye to the lost instead of ushering them toward Christ?

We should be drawing near to Him now more than ever.

Praying now more than ever.

Repenting now more than ever.

Worshipping now more than ever.

Reading and studying our Bibles now more than ever.

We should be making disciples now more than ever.

As Christians, we shouldn’t add to the noise of confusion and deception. We should be shining God’s Light in this dark world. Because the truth is, Jesus is coming back. The question is, are we ready?

With Love,

Tamara
