Renew Your Mind

Springtime is all about renewal. Nature’s natural cycle of growth and revitalization often inspires us to reflect on our own lives. We think about what habits to adapt, avoid, or keep. Furthermore, life choices are evaluated as we take a hard look at what we have accomplished and what we haven’t. The spiritual symbolism and significance open our hearts to God in a new way. The instruction to, “Renew your mind,” becomes a catalyst for the pursuit of a deeper relationship with God.

Renewal Not Conformity

Romans 12 tells us not to be conformed to the world. We are not to follow the pattern of our generation but that of Christ. Consequently, God, the creator of everything, has absolute authority, even over our minds. Therefore, it is only with intentional surrender and obedience that we can renew our minds through His Word. Like Jesus, our lives must be a living sacrifice. We must sacrifice our desires for His, the world’s truth for His, and our comfort for His glory. The Flesh, often in direct opposition to God’s thoughts and ways, will resist. In many ways, it can feel unnatural.

However, if we truly believe that God is Sovereign, we must conclude that His truth is THE TRUTH. Thus, we lay down the philosophy of men for the Gospel of Christ. As we meditate on Scripture, study the Word, worship in His presence, and gather with the Body, He does a holy work in us transforming us into the image of Christ.

Scripture To Meditate On

‘Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. ‘

‘For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified. ‘

Romans 8:29-30

‘Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. ‘

Romans 12:1
