Every fall, I naturally find myself drifting into a reflective mood. I begin to think about my year – lessons learned, mistakes made, and growth I desire to see. As I meditate on where I am and where I’m going, there’s always a word or phrase that comes to mind. For the next few months, I sit on that word, pray on that word, and contemplate that word. Before the parties were planned and the confetti was dropped to celebrate the arrival of 2025, I knew where God was leading me. My word of the year is fruit.

What Is Fruit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things. ”
Galatians 5:22-23
The word fruit appears in 184 verses in the King James Bible. It must be important. But why? What is it and why is it so important? Fruit is the offspring or product of a seed that has been planted. Whether planting seeds of fig or sin, you can always expect a harvest of some kind. Used both literally and figuratively, fruit is often a metaphor for Christian life.
“Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.”
John 15:2
“Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance.”
Matthew 3:8
“So you’ll recognize them by their fruit. ”
Matthew 7:20
Be Fruitful
Jesus expects us to be fruitful. He wants us to be fruitful in the knowledge of Him and God’s Word, in our discipline, character, prayer, giving, and even in our evangelism. As we plant more seeds of love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, we begin to multiply holy fruit, transforming into the image of Christ with every bud.
A fruitful Christian is deeply rooted in God. She is overflowing with the goodness of God, providing sustenance and refreshing to the Body and her community. I want to be like her, trusting in God and speaking His truth. To be like a flourishing tree, well-watered in His Word, and producing nourishing fruit that reflects His nature and works according to His will is what I desire. I want to be more patient as a wife and mother, more loving as a Believer, and more self-controlled. I desire to be more like Christ. With each passing day, may I become sweeter and sweeter. Just like Jesus.
With Love,
Tamara
