As we enter the New Year, goal setting is top of mind for many. From health aspirations to setting ambitious business objectives, determination is high. I’ve always been a huge proponent of creating and implementing clear intentions. However, as my devotion for the Lord has grown over the years, I have refined my New Year vision-casting process. You see, God isn’t only the foundation of my goals, He is the goal. If you also desire to deepen your faith and intimacy with the Lord, I suggest making 2026 your ‘God Goals’ year.

What Is A God Goal?
A God-Goal is a goal rooted in the purpose and will of God. God-Goals are completely surrendered to the Father and dependent on Him to see them through. They are fully aligned with His perfect plan and not our own. Finally, God-Goals serve a higher purpose other than the growth, refinement, or elevation of ourselves. When we set God-Goals, we do so with the mindset that the achievement of our intentions benefits others just as much as ourselves, if not more.
What A God Goal Is Not
A God-Goal is not selfish ambition, wishful thinking, or self-seeking. It is not born out of absence from the Lord, but intimacy with Him. Further, it is not rooted in worldly desires but heavenly Kingdom pursuits. While a God-Goal can be personal, it is never only personal.
How To Set Your God Goals
Prayer – God-Goals must be rooted in prayer. Before you break out the poster board and inspirational pictures, spend some time in prayer with the Lord. Ask Him to reveal what is on your agenda for the year.
Surrender – Surrender is a huge part of your God-Goals journey. Pray for the Lord to examine and purify your heart. Ask Him to exchange any desires that are outside of His perfect will for those that are.
Meditate – How can we know what God is calling us to if we do not meditate on Him and His Word? Spend time reflecting on who He is and what He has spoken in the Scriptures. This is how we grow in knowledge and intimacy with the Father, helping us to discern His voice and instruction.
Review – I always like to say, “to know where you are going, you must know where you have been.” Take some time to review your current habits, beliefs, and ambitions. If they do not align with the way of the Lord, you know these are areas where adjustments need to be made.
Plan & Execute – This is the fun part! Begin to dream with God. Write down every goal you believe the Lord is giving you to work toward and steward. Create an action plan to help you stay focused and committed.
All About Surrender
Remember, God-Goals is all about surrender. It is not about your plan or your way but His. Lastly, if you struggle to hear from the Lord and you question whether your desires are truly from Him, write them down anyway. The key, however, is to write them down with a heart of surrender, asking Him to either exchange that desire for His or give you direction concerning it. With continued devotion, you will begin to learn not only His voice, but His heart.
With Love,
Tamara
