God is holy. However, I believe our modern culture has lost some reverence and awe for God. We forget that He is the one who created the heavens and the earth with a word that He spoke. He parted the sea, delivered manna from heaven, and counted the hair on our heads. In an attempt to connect, or reach the culture or the youth, we say things like, “Jesus is my homeboy.” And I get it. Jesus does call us friends, but if we do what He commands. (John 15:14) We are to have an intimate relationship with God. But let’s not forget that God is God. For He is Lord over us and Lord over all things. He is our Creator and our Savior and He should be regarded as such.

The Holiness Of God
To grasp the holiness of God we must understand what holiness is. The word Holy comes from the Hebrew word ko’desh which means sacredness, separateness, or set-apartness. Perhaps this is why God calls us, the believers, to be set apart. We are to be representatives of God’s holiness. As people look at us they should see God. As they hear us speak they should hear God speaking. We are God’s vessels. Which is why He has given us the Holy Spirit. His Spirit. The name of God’s Spirit is HOLY. The very essence of God is holy. His nature is righteous and pure. Therefore, there is none like Him and there never will be. Love and justice are in His name because that is who He is.
This Holy and Perfect God made us in His image. After His Likeness. And even when man fell, He gifted us with His Spirit. God pours out His spirit, His holiness, on us so that we are no longer separate from Him but also so that we can be set apart from the world. God sets us apart for His plan and purpose. This is where we find our purpose. This is the God we serve. The God we find our identity in. The ONLY God we surrender to. This is the God we are to tell the world about. A Holy, Holy, Holy God.
Scripture To Meditate On
”Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.“
“The Lord said to him: Take off the sandals from your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
”God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him.“
”Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.“
”And one called to another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Armies; his glory fills the whole earth.“
So who is God to you? Is He someone that you casually check in with from time to time? Maybe He’s the one you call on when life gets hard or complicated. Or is He your source of all comfort, your redeemer, your corrector, and your savior? Is He the one you pray to in good times and bad? Do you bow before Him? Do you follow His ways? Is God, God to you?
With Love,
Tamara
