What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus? Recently, while watching a sermon online, I was reminded of the weight of walking in the footprints of Jesus: impressions that could never be filled but direct us from one step to the next. They lead us to the way of truth, repentance, healing, and salvation.
However, the reality of our social interactions has caused us to become indifferent and dispassionate to the term. So easy it is for us to follow our favorite influencer with a beautiful aesthetic, a podcaster who always has on the best guest, a YouTuber who takes us behind the scenes of their daily lives allowing us to form virtual bonds, or a Bible teacher whose words are eloquent and messages are powerful. How easy it is for us to unfollow them.

But Jesus
But Jesus is unlike any of these. Jesus is LORD. His name is the name above all names. It doesn’t cost us much to follow people but it could cost us everything to follow Jesus. When He calls us to follow Him, He expects surrender and sacrifice. We must take up our cross, deny our flesh, and live by faith. When we follow Him, He leads us to the promise of eternity. His influence is the only one that will lead us there. When we choose to follow Jesus, we are not following a trend or the latest popular figure. No, we are following the savior of the world. The choice is not the result of doomscrolling until something attractive catches our eye or feeds a need inside us. It is the result of humbling ourselves, crucifying our flesh, and the willingness and desire to reflect His light. That is weighty.
Scripture To Meditate On
‘Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. ‘
‘If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. ‘
‘My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. ‘
‘“Follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for , people.” ‘
With Love,
Tamara
