As a writer, you appreciate the experience of words effortlessly flowing from your fingertips. You feel inspired and are bursting with thoughts desperate to get out into the world. Prayer Walk
As a Christian Blogger, my first suggestion is always to go to God. Especially if your work is more than a hobby or passion but an assignment. Get alone with God and seek His counsel. Ask Him to lead you in your writing. I also find walking in nature to be extra peaceful and refreshing. Distance yourself from the distractions of life and focus on what God is putting on your heart to write.
Remain A Student
Sometimes a block isn’t caused by a lack of inspiration but a lack of information. Perhaps you need to apply some more in-depth study to your writing. Are you well-informed on the subject matter? Can you offer truth or a well-rounded opinion? I believe that all people should be lifelong learners. But this is especially true for writers. Dig deeper into your topic or concept. Learn about other points of view and reflect on what you can offer to the conversation.
Talk It Out
Some of the best ideas are birthed from simple and casual conversations. Grab a coffee or lunch with a friend, pressure-free. Make it a catch-up date. Share about life experiences and enjoy the company. If you feel led to or if the conversation takes you there, discuss the struggle you are experiencing with your current piece. Their input may be just what you need to get over this hump. You never know when inspiration will strike!
Get Creative
Allow different mediums of art to inspire you. I believe that art speaks through its expression, whether through visual art, dance, or music. Immerse yourself in the experience. Live in the moment. Take a mental note of how you feel and what the piece is saying to you. How can it inform your creativity or writing? And don’t forget to enjoy it. Sometimes enjoying another Creative’s work gives you the motivational boost you need to return to yours.
It’s Time To Write
If you have been struggling to string sentences together, I pray that these creative ways to overcome writer’s block help bring you clarity. I believe in the power of words and want to inspire you to write with authenticity and authority. Instead of spending hours staring at the blank screen of your laptop or swimming in the tortured crumpled papers covering your floor, get creative so you can get back to writing.
With Love,
Tamara
