Comfy and cozy season is upon us. Oversized sweaters, frothy drinks, and pumpkin spice treats make this fall girly oh-so-happy! If you can’t tell, I love fall. It provides a feeling of comfort that the other seasons don’t seem to have. But even with all of its warmth and muted tone colors, there is a far superior comfort. That is the comfort of God.

The God Of All Comfort
I’ve spent many years trying to find comfort in everything but God: relationships, career, food. It wasn’t always intentional, but it was familiar. In a world full of guilty pleasures and quick fixes, it is easy to become dependent on worldly delights. Habitual even. We curate our own personal boxes of comfort to pick from, ready for every situation and disappointment. The gratification will be instant and temporary, yet we still put our full trust in our chosen vice.
We don’t choose God in these moments. Instead, we run away from Him. We don’t trust that His grace extends to the most intimate parts of our grief, and even if we do, we don’t want it. We would rather give in to the addiction of our comfort regardless of the outcome of its momentary satisfaction. However, we do not have to settle for short-lived happiness when we are offered everlasting joy. God is the “God of all comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3) His comfort doesn’t coddle bad behavior; it crucifies the flesh. It’s full of grace and truth, purifying and strengthening our souls. If our relief leads us away from Him, it is no comfort at all. Because God’s comfort is not limited to a temporary pleasure but holds the gift of a lasting salvation. We are not guaranteed a comfortable life, but we are promised a glorious eternity in Christ. That is the ultimate comfort.
With Love,
Tamara
Scripture To Meditate On
‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. ‘
‘He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that as you share in the sufferings, so you will also share in the comfort. ‘
