Christian Couple Goals

It’s that time of the year again when public displays of affection and commitment are posted all over social media. Romantic getaways, elaborate dinners, and surprise proposals are met with various congratulations and red heart emojis. However, this can also be a somber time for some. They feel the sting of being uncoupled. Or, perhaps their relationship lacks the romance they see and dream of. It can be easy to envy what you don’t have. But as Believers, we can be our own Christian couple goals. I believe in romance and love a grand gesture whether public or private. Nevertheless, our relationships must be built on God.

Pray For One Another

There is power in prayer. As Jesus intercedes for us, we should be interceding for our partners. Pray for their heart, their health, and their God-given assignment. Humility is at the heart of every intercession.

Pray Together

Unity is a building block for a strong relationship. When you come together to pray, you are creating intimacy between each other and God. As a couple, praying together for your individual and collective needs postures your heart and relationship to be Christ-centered. Whether you are still in the courting phase, engaged, or married, remember that marriage is a beautiful reflection of the unity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. They are one.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. ”
‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬

Worship Together

Worship is a beautiful expression of adoration and praise. Let your lives be an act of worship, giving reverence to God in all that you do. Welcoming each other into this intimate space draws you closer to God together.

Study The Word Together

Grow together as you study together. Dig into God’s Word as you meditate on His ways and revelations. Share about your quiet time and engage in the Word with each other. Implement this as a rhythm in your relationship and continue it as you grow your family.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another. ”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬

Seek God First

Strengthen your union by seeking God first. From career to ministry, finances to family planning, seek God together to determine His will for you. Allow God to be the thread that holds you together.

Forgive One Another

Life is without heartbreak. We can’t keep a promise of never hurting the other. It is impossible. For we are human and living in a fallen world. We will lose our temper, respond out of frustration, and even offend when we intend to encourage. The key to moving forward is forgiveness. Offer each other the same grace that has been extended to all of us through Christ.

Love One Another

Love one another. The greatest thing we can do in our relationship is love. For that reason, through action, deed, and speech, give the gift of love. Remember, God so loved the world that He gave. Jesus laid down His life for us because of love. Love is sacrificial and clothed in humility.

“No one has ever seen God.  If we love one another, God remains in us and his love is made complete in us.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬

Reflect Christ

Our most important couple goal is to reflect Christ. Therefore, we should seek and commit to stewarding a relationship that honors Him. Yes, plan the date night, share “just because gifts,” and write love notes but don’t forget to build a foundation rooted in God by planting seeds of holiness and righteousness. Let your love flow from a place of purity and not performance. Certainly, a relationship built on Christ should be admired and strived for. Now that is the real #couplegoals.

With Love,

Tamara
