At every turn, there is a resource for us to grab hold of. In the age of self-help, we are not without a plethora of podcasts, books, documentaries, and social media commentary. We have a library of research and quick fixes at our fingertips. However, as Believer’s, our authority about everything concerning life is the Bible. All Scripture is God-breathed and therefore the foundation of our every need.

Inspired By God
Imprisoned and persecuted, Paul wasn’t concerned about his comfort or escape. No, his heart was with God’s people. He was consumed with the spread of the truth of the Gospel. Timothy, his friend, coworker, and spiritual son in the faith, is the recipient of the letter in the book that bears his name, 2 Timothy. The message and purpose of the letter are to encourage Timothy to keep the faith and “correctly teach the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Amid his exhortation and instruction, Paul makes a critical claim: that God inspires all Scripture.
“All Scripture is inspired by God, and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. ”
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Where Do You Turn?
Psalm 19 says that “the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous” (Psalm 19:9). Although written by human hands, these holy Scriptures flow from the Spirit of God. They are the mouthpiece of God and the essence of Jesus. However, how many times do we find ourselves turning to destructive vices in moments of despair or weakness? Ask yourself, when you are in need where do you turn? When you are anxious, overwhelmed, or lost and confused, where do you turn?
Being led by the Holy Spirit, Paul tells us that Scripture is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training. And yet we find ourselves running to everything and everyone but God and His Word. Why? Could it be that we don’t trust these words? Do we not trust God or both?
The Breath Of God
Until we learn to regard Scripture as the breath of God, we will continue to run. I don’t find it a coincidence that in the very same epistle, Paul warns that in the last days, “people will be lovers of self,” while “holding to the form of godliness but denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:2-5). We seek answers and validation anywhere but God.
But if you are tired of running, now is the time to seek the truth, seek Him. In between the pages of the Bible hold counsel, wisdom, and instruction. God’s Word is trustworthy and true. But the only way to come to that revelation is to open it and read.
With Love,
Tamara
