A Good, Good Friday

We don’t often think of death as a good thing. Instead, it is regarded as the worst thing we could endure. However, as demonstrated throughout creation, death often gives way to new life. Therefore, today, the revelation about Jesus’ death is celebrated and not mourned. He gave up His life for us, forever marking the day as a good, good Friday.

What Is Good Friday

‘But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds. ‘ Isaiah 53:5

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus. It is a holy day in the Christian faith that acknowledges the redemption of humanity.

As Jesus was flogged, nailed to a cross, and a crown of thorns was put on His head, I’m sure His disciples, family, and those who expected Him to free them from Roman oppression were full of despair, not joy, as they witnessed His life drain from His body. This didn’t look like a victory.

But oh, what a victory it was. Although it seemed like all hope was lost, Jesus was victorious and remains triumphant today. He willingly gave up His life so that we could live! He paid the price for us, serving as the complete and final sacrifice for all sins. We are washed clean because of His sacrifice and clothed in His righteousness (Isaiah 61:10). Hence, when God sees us, He sees Christ.

With Love,

Tamara
