When I think of July, I think about basking in the beginning of the end of summer. Family cookouts are still underway as children play jump rope in the street. I think about sitting on the back patio listening to the sounds of the season while drinking a cool glass of freshly squeezed lemonade. Ahhh, the good life. We’re Like Lemons
Lemons. We’re like lemons, constantly being pressed and squeezed by life. But the question is, what comes out of us when we are squeezed? Because WE WILL be squeezed. That is inevitable. Proverbs 16:23 tells us that a wise person instructs his mouth, and we know that wisdom comes from God (James 1:5). Are we continually seeking wisdom from Him? Once squeezed, are we sour and tart? Can our words and actions be too bitter to be consumed? What comes out of us when we are pressed? Does our substance flow from intimacy with God or living a life apart from Him?
A fresh lemon on its own doesn’t make for the best drink. But once paired with the sweetness of honey and cooling ice, how refreshing it is. So don’t be afraid of the squeeze of life. For the squeeze, paired with the sweetness of God’s wisdom, love, and even correction, will produce something oh so good.
Scripture To Meditate On
‘The heart of a wise person instructs his mouth; it adds learning to his speech. , ‘
