What We Often Miss About The Proverbs 31 Woman

We praise her for rising early, her generosity, and even her entrepreneurial skills. Trendy morning routines have been created in an attempt to imitate her character. However, what we often miss about the Proverbs 31 woman is her fear of the Lord.

Ambition, hard work, and dedication have always been a part of my personality. I dreamed about being a powerful role model for my daughter one day. Yet during my stay-at-home-mama era over the past few years, I have struggled with feelings of inadequacy. I wonder how I can teach her to dream big if my own dreams seem so out of reach. The question of “Am I failing her?” plagues my mind.

A Legacy Of Devotion

Yet, I am reminded that the greatest gift I can give my daughter, the best example I can demonstrate, is being a daughter myself. The more I walk with the Lord, the more I am convinced my greatest quality is my surrender. Therefore, like the Proverbs 31 woman, I desire to leave a legacy of devotion, an illustration of reverence to the Lord. Yes, celebrate her for her dedication to her family and community. Praise her for her commitment and discipline. Celebrate her success, but remember, all these things will cease. However, what will remain is presence. The gift of getting to spend eternity in God’s presence is what anchors the noble woman; her fear of the Lord.

She rises early and tends to her home because she fears the Lord. Her husband trusts her because she fears the Lord. She plants a vineyard and sees that her profits are good because she fears the Lord. Her hand extends to the poor, her mouth speaks wisdom, and her children call her blessed because she fears the Lord.

So, mamas, on this Mother’s Day, remember that the greatest honor you can hold in this life is that of a woman called blessed for her surrender, submission, and devotion. She is far more precious than jewels.

With Love,

Tamara
